Leading integrated engineering company, Norfolk Group Limited (ASX: NFK) (“Norfolk”), has received a notice of acceptance for a $34 million contract for electrical, heating and ventilation upgrades at the Royal Darwin Hospital from the Northern Territory Government.
The project will deliver more efficient air conditioning systems, greater back-up power levels and reduce the hospital’s greenhouse gas emissions.
Norfolk’s electrical and communications business, O’Donnell Griffin, and its heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) specialist, Haden, will deliver works on the project.
O’Donnell Griffin is the project’s lead contractor, responsible for project management and the delivery of a number of electrical and fire-related services, while Haden will deliver mechanical services including the supply and installation of new chiller systems.
Norfolk’s Managing Director, Glenn Wallace, said the Royal Darwin Hospital project was a strong endorsement of Norfolk’s strategy to seek opportunities to draw on specialist expertise from across the Group.
“A key pillar of Norfolk’s strategy has been to increase the opportunities to offer broad, integrated services on projects that demand the specialist skills contained within the Group.
“The Royal Darwin Hospital contract is a good example of the demand for these services, with O’Donnell Griffin and Haden working in tandem to deliver an integrated solution.
“It is also a positive sign that our strategy of targeting growth sectors of the economy, such as the health sector, continues to be successful,” said Mr Wallace.
Norfolk Group will utilise a local team of 25 project management staff, technicians and fire specialists for the Royal Darwin Hospital project. Work is due to start immediately and run until mid-2013.
