Leading integrated engineering company, Norfolk Group Limited (ASX: NFK) (‘Norfolk’), has been awarded its first contract under a five-year framework agreement with Rio Tinto.
Under the framework agreement, Norfolk will undertake electrical and instrumentation works on Rio Tinto’s Pilbara expansion program, the largest integrated mining project in Australian history.
Norfolk’s electrical and communications engineering business, O’Donnell Griffin, will undertake the works.
The initial package under the framework agreement is a $17.5 million contract for electrical and instrumentation engineering and installation services, including high-voltage reticulation and commissioning support services, at Rio Tinto’s Brockman mine.
Norfolk is well positioned to capitalise on further work packages under the framework agreement over the next five years.
Norfolk Managing Director, Glenn Wallace, said: “Norfolk has a strategic focus on pursuing framework and preferred supplier contracts with established customers, given the long-term planning advantages they present to both sides.
“This agreement recognises the ability of Norfolk to deliver the skills and expertise required to carry out works on large-scale expansion projects for blue-chip customers such as Rio Tinto.”
Up to 70 Norfolk Group staff will work on the Brockman mine project, with resources currently being mobilised. Works on this initial contract are expected to be completed by the end of August 2012.
